Rough Version of Jaeren Mosaic

I use culture as a clue to explore the urbanization in Jaeren while injecting my discovery with the knowledge from interview and other source. The pdf is not the finished version. I will follow the line like this:
1. Culture and art as a metaphor ever appeared and disappeared in Jaeren's natural and social landscape.
2. Take Sandnes for example, the Silobygget intrigued huge discussion on whether this high-rise culture center will bring out Bilbao effect.Various debate can be reviewed concerning urban development. Silobygget is also a clue to look at all those proposed high-rise architecture projects in Jaeren(some are suspended, some are in construction, they all in some way appeared or disappeared on Jaeren's scenario map). From municipalities' enthusiasm for new high rise projects, can see a fierce competition is on air.
3. Bryne also took part in this battle with Bryne Forum. What kind of urban identity a traditional agriculture area is looking for? and during this process, a series of conflict between tradition and modernization shall be discussed also in terms of culture phenomenon.
4. As economic competition is going more and more strong, to attract young talents back is a key way to find possibility for future. The factors lure young talents back Jaeren is another consequent topic, which is not solely concerned on culture.
The words in the Jaeren mosaic is not the final version, also the images need editing. Infographics may need my oral explaination:) I hope they will raise wider discussion.

Culture Landscape-A process of thinking

>pdf

This project is rather a process of gathering various voices than a solid design. I would say this is another fun approach I have learnt during this studio. At the very first beginning, I was so deeply confirmed that I would still like to do cultural thing on Jæren. I am not saying my mind has been changed. Instead, a new way of analyzing what kind of structure Jæren has leads me to a more convincing method to do the research. In this midcritic presentation, I am going to reveal my conversation with those interesting people from Jæren and through which I try to explain a sort of ideal image on culture, on landscape in the post fossil oil era.

Inhale the Landscape via Space and Time

I should say being inspired by a serial of paintings is a romantic start. I found Kitty 's works, who is a notable norwegian landscape painter in the 19th century. Comparing the scenes from her paintings with the present landscape from aerophotos is a nice experiment to explore the changes within the four dimensions.Although the method is rather "impressionistic", it informs me a huge amount of possibilities on this productive land.

To be honest, I prefer urban situation than rural ones. I like the diversity of culture and dramatic conflict, also the crazy ideas happened everyday in the metropolis, like dramas on stage, full of emotion. However, Jæren is quite "out of my expectation". I didn't presume upon its richness in structure and different scale. Thought it's flat, but seems all materials and functions collide here while at the same time,in harmony. Once your body is in the Jæren's territory, no matter whether you are on land or in sky, just inhale the landscape, by expriencing the long history and horizontal and vertical hierarchy. Eventually, people should be a part of the land, merged in the horizon...

From the perspective of aesthetics, the landscape in Jæren is elegant enough. I don't see any necessity to overthrow and refurbish it. What I need to do is to make an organic fabric in order to optimize the value of Jæren, providing clues for culture/sport/service industry development (which I suppose will be parrel with energy)in the new era. Wish me good luck:)

445 million NKR-An Important Step towards Realizing a Norwegian Wind Power

Enova has given the commitment of support to Jæren Energi AS's wind power plant on Høy-Jæren, and expansion of Kvalheim Kraft's wind power plant on Mehuken.
A total of 445 million allocated in this announcement round, which will provide just under 300 GWh of new wind power.

-This is an important step towards realizing a Norwegian wind power investment and achieving Enova's goal of development of 3 TWh wind power by 2010. Based on Enova's criteria are High-Jæren and Mehuken rated as the best options. These projects will support because they provide most energy for money, says CEO Nils Kristian Nakstad in Enova SF. Jæren Energy has received the commitment of support to 352 million kroner and Kvalheim Kraft has been promised the support of 93 million.

Different wind farms vary greatly in profitability. Should the great potential for wind power in Norway is triggered is dependent on developing the most affordable and cost effective developments.

-The two wind farms, which is funded in this round requires significantly less support than the next person who stood on the ranking list. As of today appears to wind power as costly, but we believe that costs will go down already at the next round call for proposals. It requires, however, that more will finally licensing, so we will have more competition among the applicants, "says Nakstad.

Norway is currently 1.1 TWh of wind power and with this grant will increase to 1368 TWh.Enova will contribute to the development of the Norwegian wind power market by contract attachment development of 3 TWh wind power by 2010.

-While this is a good start is the Norwegian wind power venture into a decisive phase in the coming years. There is limited room for further support for wind power in Enova's financial framework after 2010. Enova believes therefore that it is urgent to clarify the framework that will apply for Norwegian wind power by 2010, says Nakstad.

Jaeren survey

On November 11th-12th we have been in Jaeren for a preliminary survey of the region. We have been following an unreliable italian GPS and this beautiful map. The result: many impressions, and a slide show, that we invite you to see, here.
