This is my second version of “imbedded information”. The expanding urban areas in Jaeren is also a part of the expanding urban areas in the rest of the world. Agricultural land is under pressure. The urban citizens of Jaeren also affect the rest of the world through their ecological footprint caused by food- production. Is it possible to make a alliance between the expanding urban areas and the lack of energy/ecological solutions?

Hey Elisabeth
ReplyDeleteJust follow your line of work as fast and as deep as you can. Try to get more statistics on the agricultural productivity (and ecological status) in Jæren, and compare it to your permacultural approach.
Can your way of introducing this lead to permacultural townships? Ask Mats and Trude about there Jæren as one city approach, without communal borders etc. The townships of Jæren is in their mind different neighbourhoods in the One Jæren City - a city with a new approach (permaculture in your field of vision) towards both growth, lifeforms, research and production. Most important for you: all kinds of research, fex on climate change, global food concepts, local technological inovations etc can be added to your concept - have fun, go far and stretch your knowledge
Hei Elisabeth - I see a lot of passion in this new version of your work!! Keep on like this. Why is Kleppe your test ground? Is it because your permaculture approach is trying to be a way to discuss a more "urban living" where permaculture is a strategy for local food production, in rural areas? Or did you find strategic industries/productions for which Kleppe could become a new avant-garde centre? Now try to se how can permaculture infiltrate the current way of agricultural production: I think you got a great intuition in starting from local urban centres! And not forget to see what spaces permaculture is creating vs traditional extensive agricultures.. will we have new urban biotopes? neigbourhood ponds for phytodepuration? Have you found the BBC film and talked again to Ingvald Erga? Good luck!

Maybe it is possible for me to both investigate Bryne, with it’s connection to the railway and more urban locality, and Kleppe as rural permacultural experiment surrounded by agricultural land? I really see the idea of Bryne as a starting- point for my first investigating! I believe in the expanding of new ideas from urban areas. Maybe Kleppe can be a continuation of a “new green structure” or a part of the permacultural township.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of Jaeren as one city approach. In my first investigating I deled much with the municipalities in Jaeren; the municipalities already cooperate and have common strategies for where to plan agricultural land and housing- areas (talked to the farming minister in Time).
I’m glad I have seen my limits of knowledge- I have a technical&ecological,- and global approach, but not the in- between.
I could not find the BBC- film? Can you please send me the link?
hey E
ReplyDeletehere is the link to city as biotope blog. You find the BBC film, part 1 "The fram of the future" under teachers talk, 26th of Septembre
