In my B.S. project in Iceland, I was working with the entrances of Vatnajökull national park, who covers around 13 % of the island, including different landscapes, texture and structures. I got very inspired after reading a poem after Grímur Thomsen which tells about how vörður / varde / land guards.... pile of stones that have protected and led the nation through the times. My final solution was to use these guards to lead people into the park. I like this project because I was working with issues that I care about; nature and tourism, and the knowledge it gave me about the land and history.

and ita has also to do with the scale, the speed and the way we experience these landscapes.. your image reminded me abou the works of Hamish Fulton and Richard Long, the "walking artists"..so much our gestures in the landscape can be not only interpretations but also suggestions on how one should relate to a space. and when talking about tourism it becomes superimportant. tourism is ultimately a very informed, almost pre-cooked experience of a place, especially when talking about mass tourism. there is an almost political responsibility on how we design this experience - for the people, but also for the place in itself, often both very valuable and vulnerable - and landscape architects seldom are involved..
