Geopark Stavanger

A small scale- landscape has appeared in Stavanger...

"The geopark is organised organised around a artificial landscape which relates the topography of the Troll field in a scale 1:500". Surfaces and installations are constructed out of recycled and reshaped elementes from the petroleum sector, taken from abondored fields, offshore bases, equipment supplies and scrap heaps. As a part of the official programe of celebrating the Stavanger region as a European Capital of Culture in 2008, the project has been developted by the Helen&Hard arcitectural practice and the Norwegain Petroleum Museum in cooparation with local youth groups."

  1. Hey Elisabeth
When I saw this park on our journey to Stavanger I was surprised. It appears in a way as ruins of the oil economy long gone, drawn upp from the shoreline where the wind and waves has brought them. With partly closed eyes they may look like Jean Tinguilys movables. Small dinosaurs of the oil industry, in a churchyard for a way of thinking and a certain economical landscape, becoming a playground. Actually a very surprising concept from Heln&Hard - a critical concept, what do you think?
