Improving NYC bike lanes
We arrived New York City from the bike city Copenhagen as experienced bikers with knowledge and certain approach to the topic about cycling, which for many New Yorkers is quite unfamiliar. We identified the main difficulties in the existing bike lane network in Manhattan, and found ways to improve the situation for the bikers.
It was incredibly interesting to see that a simple thing as improving bike lanes can impact many factors in society; by increasing cycling the overloaded traffic is spread throughout a wider transportation capacity and the city becomes more accessible. Biking compared to other means of transportation makes the city environmental friendly and the health advantages of biking, as an important step into solving weight problem in the U.S. By improving the little things in the discipline of landscape architecture we can make a huge impact in other fields of the society as well. I'm very interested in the way we move and transport our self through cities and 'fragmentet urban landscapes'. The route we choose is the way we experience the landscape. Who is creating the route? The architects or the landscape?
